Rotax releases ASB-912-062UL and ASB-914-044UL.

ASB-912-062ULToday Rotax released 2 ASB’s.  One for the 912 Series of engines and one for the 914 Series.  Both deal with cylinder head inspections.

The reason for this ASB release is as follows:  “Due to a deviation in the manufacturing process some cylinder heads may have an oil leak in the intake channel in the area of the valve guide. There is a possibility of small machined through holes, which can increase the oil consumption which may result in an engine stoppage.”

We contacted the distributor and found some very reassuring news.  They encourage owners to do the following:

First, check to see if your engine serial number falls within the range mentioned in the ASB.

Second, if your engine falls within the range, it needs to be visually inspected by a technician with an iRMT rating of Service or higher before it’s next flight.  Basically technicians are required to read the ASB and cover each of the points mentioned in section 3.  Section 3 clearly explains what needs to be looked for and in the end a test run of the engine is required.

Thirdly, if you engine is found to be affected, then you must contact your iSC for warranty support.

The encouraging news from the distributor for the Americas is that they have sold none of the engines within that serial range.  That being said, please still check and compare your engine serial number.
