Scoda Aeronautica did a very small reveal of what promises to be a game changer in the LSA Seaplane market. At the end of their first day of technical training, the stage was quietly cleared and on the big screen flashed something that I was told would never be able to be produced…. A seaplane that fits into all the current LSA requirements, yet is able to carry the Rotax® 915iS powerhouse. Rodrigo and his very talented team introduced us to this……
THE SUPER PETREL XP.
How much do they believe in this project? I don’t think I have ever seen Rodrigo with a bigger smile. This and the announcement that the XP will fully replace their current flagship the Super Petrel LS. (Current LS owners know that support for 15 years has been promised.)
The new aircraft was built from the ground up for the Rotax® 915iS aircraft engine. (They will still offer the 912iS as an option. But the 912ULS and 914UL will not be.) I can hear the cries for more photos and specs ….. Here a few renderings and photos of the prototype.
As mentioned earlier, the Super Petrel XP is a totally new design and they have used this to incorporate some key features the new owners will love. Some are so simple… like larger wheels and even the entry into the cockpit was streamlined. The canopy gently slides forward and then lifts up. You and your passenger, enter from the nose and step down into the aircraft. This of course created some challenges for the design team. We will be uploading a video where a lot of the thought process behind this amazing aircraft will be explained by the man himself.
Specs and pricing will also follow.
